Poll: Will Obama = Freedom?
They're sprouting up all over the Internet, like toadstools after a rainy night. Homemade video documentaries and opinion pieces appealing to Mormonism's conservative roots and the long-past
tenure of former Church President and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson.
The focus: question Mitt, consider Paul.
Despite resounding victories for Romney in the Mormon-dominated
Wyoming Republican Primary and Nevada Caucus, short document-
aries recently posted on YouTube and other Internet sites suggest
that not all Mormons are gung-ho for Mitt.
Mormon Church luminaries such as Joel Skousen, as well as L.D.S.
voices from the grave, most notably Benson's, feature in what has
become an internet mini-genre: the Mormons for Ron Paul video
short.
But, have these grassroots video assaults caused any fissures
to appear in the Intermountain West's Romney monolith? Maybe.
Some Republican observers credit pro-Ron Paul internet video
with helping the Texas Congressman secure a second-place
finish over Sen. John McCain in last Saturday's Nevada Caucus.
Only time and the Arizona, Utah, Colorado and Idaho caucuses
and primaries will tell the rest of the tale. One thing's for sure
though, Romney's detractors from within, while perhaps a small
minority, are demanding to be heard.
