Poll: Will Obama = Freedom?
Did you enjoy this article?
Clinton or McCain? Which one will it be?!?
Point/Counterpoint - There used to be talk in semi-serious tones between B.J. Clinton and Tony Blair about a "third way" in politics - not capitalism, not socialism, but a "hybrid" that is both compassionate and free. Myself, I've had just about enough of government "compassion" - the type of compassion a slavemaster feels for his slave, that is, just enough to not want to "damage the goods." And I am tired of negotiating with our politicians about what it means to be "free." Just like the saying, "you can't be a little bit pregnant," you can't be a little bit free. Freedom, by the way, does not entail infringing on others' freedoms - that in itself is tyranny, theft or a violation of someone's personhood.
You see, some people seem to get the impression nowadays that the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are antiquated documents - relics of a bygone era. They consider them amusing products of the Enlightenment, which of course, were relegated moot once Marx was able to deliver the commandments of communism down from the mount of utopia. But our Founding Fathers knew in quite profound theoretical detail what the face of tyranny looked like, and the grave odds they were fighting against when they ratified a Constitution that nominally gave power to the people. Washington knew what we were up against when he warned the nation of political parties, which might open up the U.S. to foreign influences. He also knew that the U.S. should beware of foreign entanglements, but not so much so that when tyranny looked you in the eye, that you backed down and capitulated - a philosophy that served him well in the American Revolutionary War. Lincoln knew the danger when he noted that each generation has a tendency to want to make its mark on the world, thus endangering our system of laws by adding countless cryptic rules and regulations. And Reagan knew it when he explained that socialized medicine is the first step towards communism.
And now, many generations later, we are stuck with a choice between McCain and Hillary - a choice between tyranny and tyranny as far as I am concerned. At least Hillary has the common courtesy to be affiliated with a deranged leftist socialist utopian mass fringe, while McCain is an imposter of a conservative in a supposedly conservative party. If socialism is a sickness, McCain would be a RINO virus.
This being said, I would rather have the Democrats win and send the U.S. on its slow boat to socialist-totalitarian hell, than reward the Republicans for ditching all morality and sense, and helping McCain do the exact same thing that the Democrats would. At least there is some hope of a choice for freedom and decency in 2012 if McCain loses. And 2012, by the way, is the year of the Mayan apocalypse. If the Mayans could see Hillary winning in 2008, I don't blame them for wanting to just end it all and start over again.
